On November 23, 2016 Ambassador Kenjiro Monji and Mrs. Monji hosted a reception to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. Honorary Advisor Emeritus Mitsugi Shinran Kikuchi of the Ohara School, with the assistance of Helen Jukai Westington, presented on the stage the ikebana arrangement shown here. Ambassador Monji, Foreign Minister Dion, and distinguished guests celebrated “the new era for cooperation between Japan and Canada.”

Gananoque Exhibition September 11, 2016
A very successful early fall exhibition by Cliff Shinju Byrnes, his students and guests from Ottawa, was held on September 11, 2016 in Gananoque. Gananoque Summer Workshops 2016

Two fun and educational workshops were held in Gananoque on Saturday, September 13. Second Master Cliff Shinju Burns led one in the creation of miniature arrangements in the Japanese style. Cliff then taught a second workshop in the water reflecting and realistic landscape styles of the Ohara School.

Spring 2016 update
Fifteen enthusiastic people took part in an INTRODUCTORY CLASS held on Saturday, April 9 from 1:00 to 3:30 at the McNabb Community Centre, 180 Percy Street, Ottawa. Everyone had an opportunity to learn about the Ohara School of Ikebana and to make a simple. beautiful arrangement that they will be able to replicate at home. They met a number of teachers and had an opportunity to discuss opportunities for further classes.
DEMONSTRATION AND ANNUAL OHARA EXHIBITION, 2016: A demonstration of Ohara School techniques was held on March 1, 2016 in the auditorium of the Japanese Embassy and was appreciated by about fifty guests. The annual exhibition, titled Renaissance was held at the Japanese Embassy on March 5-6 and included many beautiful arrangements by Ohara School students and teachers.

Summer Workshops 2015
August 29, 2015: A Summer Workshop was offered in Ottawa by by Marie-Eve Fuki Coupal. It was a modern arrangement with grapevine, sunflowers and hosta leaves.
August 8, 2015: A Rimpa Workshop was offered in Gananoque by Cliff Shinju Byrnes. There was first a presentation on the history of Rimpa Art and its interpretation in Ohara School arrangements by Sandra Shinsui Olney. The afternoon workshop used Tropical Plant Material, and the evening workshop interpreted the Beauty of the 1000 Islands.
